Kenmore District Kindergarten and Preschool
Exploring In The Outdoor Learning Environment.
The children at Kenmore District Kindergarden have the opportunity to play and explore in our shady spacious play-grounds daily.

One of our permanent climbing structures. Depending on the childrens imaginative play, it can be transformed into anything including a fire station, a pirate ship or a castle.

The shady grass area is a well designed space for active play where childrens gross motor skills can be developed. This is where children can kick and catch balls, play cricket or soccer, go through an obstacle course or over hurdles, as well as many other activities.

Kenmore District Kindergarten has large shady sandpits that can accomodate large groups of children. Here they can create and experiment with sand, water and a large variety of play equipment. The children enjoy pumping their own water from the water pump to use in their sand play.

Children really enjoy gardening. Here they are involved in planting seeds and seedlings, watering, weeding, observing plant growth, harvesting, cooking and of course, eating the produce.

The children engage in social and imaginative play where they create and plan many adventures.
Music and Creative Movement
Each group of children enjoy their weekly lesson from our qualified music specialist. The music program is based on the work of Orff Schulwerk, which is a dynamic and inspiring approach to creative music and movement education. This approach explores rhythm, pitch and harmony through language, singing, movement and instrumental performance and uses techniques such as imitation, ostinato, canon and improvisation.

Learning through a variety of experiences indoors
Our competent and capable children choose from a range of experiences and resources available to them daily. Teachers use childrens ideas and interests to co-construct the learning environment and program with the children.

Block play is an area that children can build simple structures or complex ones either by themselves or with others. They can combine blocks with other construction sets, cars, pieces of material, and people, to name a few.

Puzzles help develop thinking, concentration and problem solving skills as well as developing concepts of shape, pattern and spatial awareness.

Children are involved in a variety of cooking experiences, including using the produce from our garden. When cooking children follow a pictorial recipe that helps develop literacy and numeracy skills, as well as science concepts and social skills. A highlight for the children of any cooking experience is tasting the result!

Dramatic play area is a place where children can role play many of the things they experience in everyday life. The children change and rearrange this space to suit their current interest. It may be a hospital one day, an office the next. The list is limited only by the children's imagination.

There is a large range of games the children play together. Games develop concentration, turn taking, concepts and social skills.
Visual Arts
The children are encouraged to express their ideas through a large variety of visual art techniques and experiences.

Children help record our daily learning to share with the parents. We often use digital photos taken during the day to help recall the experiences and learning that took place.
Resources
Kenmore District Kindergarden has extensive resources and provides enriching experiences for children.

The computer is used to reinforce the childrens learning and to relive some of their experiences, mostly using slide shows and power point.

The kindergarten subscribes to the Museum. Each week the children have new items of interest to discover. These often spark a whole new area of interest to learn about.

The kindergarten has three lending libraries- book, puzzle and a parent resourse library. The children change their library books within the program each week.

Each year the children have a wide range of visitors and visiting shows to extend the children's learning. A highlight each year is the visiting farm.
